  City Court of Hammond Judge Grace Bennett Gasaway - Law Day 2017 with 9th grade students from Hammond High Magnet School

Law Day was celebrated at the City Court of Hammond with a special presentation by 9th grade students from Hammond High Magnet School. Keeping with the theme, "The 14th Amendment - Transforming American Democracy,” the students re-enacted five court decisions leading up to Brown vs. Board of Education. With standing room only, there were many parents, educators, and school officials in attendance. Judge Grace Bennett Gasaway acknowledged and thanked the school officials for continuing the fight for equal education in our community.

Approximately 600 area middle and high school students and their teachers enjoyed the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation Law Day program held Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Raising Cane’s River Center Theatre. A Presentation of Colors by the Glen Oaks High School AJROTC Color Guard took place during the vocal performance of the national anthem by BRBF Law Day Committee Chair Hanna Thomas. The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana held a naturalization ceremony prior to the start of the Law Day opening ceremony.
