Retired 26th JDC Judge Dewey E. Burchett, Jr., 70, died Friday, November 20, 2009. A 1961 graduate of Louisiana State University, Judge Burchett served as a flight instructor with the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1967 before earning his JD from LSU Law School in 1970. He was in the practice of law from then until his election to the bench in 1988, where he served until 2008. He also served as city attorney for Bossier City and was a member of a number of civic groups.
