Former 20th JDC Judge John Richard Rarick, 85, died Monday, September 14, 2009. A World War II veteran who was captured at the Battle of the Bulge and later escaped a prisoner of war camp, Rarick earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He graduated from LSU, earned his law degree from Tulane University in 1949, and was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association for over 60 years. From 1961-1966 he served as a judge in the 20th JDC before being elected to Congress as a U.S. Representative for the 6th District, where he served until 1975. In 1980 he was the American Independent Party nominee for United States president.
