Monroe City Court Judge Diehlmann “D.C.”
Bernhardt, 75, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1949 and his Juris Doctor
degree from LSU Law School in 1951. Prior to his election
to the bench, he was on active duty with the Army’s
Judge Advocate General’s Corps, 1952-1954 and
in the private practice of law as a sole practitioner
from 1954 until his election to the bench in 1990. He
served as judge on the Monroe City Court bench from
1991-1993 but retired from the bench halfway through
his first term due to injuries resulting from an automobile
accident. In 1986, he initiated the Indigent Defender’s
Office for the Fourth Judicial District and served as
managing attorney of that office until taking the bench
in 1991.
