Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal Judge Edward A. Dufresne, Jr., 72, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010. He earned his BBA in Accounting from Loyola University in 1960 and his JD from Loyola University School of Law in 1963. He practiced law in St. Charles Parish from 1963-1978. He was elected Clerk of Court for St. Charles Parish in 1963 and was re-elected three times before taking the bench of the 29th JDC on January 1, 1979. He then was elected to serve on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, beginning May 1, 1982, and held that seat until his recent passing. He served as administrator of the 29th Judicial District Indigent Defender Board, and as President of the Louisiana Clerks of Court Association as well as the Fourth and Fifth Circuit Judges Association. He was Chairman of the Charter Commission in preparing the Home Rule Charter for St. Charles Parish and of the Judges Supplemental Compensation Board. He was a member of numerous civic and professional organizations.
