24th JDC Judge Sheldon G. Fernandez, 62, died Sunday, February 27, 2000.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1959 and was later inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame.  He received his JD degree from Loyola University Law School in 1968.  At one time he served as an assistant district attorney for Orleans Parish.  An Army National Guard veteran, he was a member of the District Judges Association, 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Association, the Jefferson, Louisiana and American bar associations, and the Louisiana and American trial lawyers associations.  In 1998, he was named Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni of the Year.
