Retired 25th JDC Judge Preston Hufft, 84, died Monday, June 30, 2008. In 1946 he received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and in 1949 he received his juris doctor degree from Loyola University School of Law. He served as Assistant Counsel for the Department of Highways and Assistant City Attorney and as Assistant District Attorney for the 25th Judicial District Court before his election to the bench in that district in 1972. He served there until his retirement in 1984. He was a past president of the Louisiana 4th Circuit Judges Association and served in leadership capacities in a number of community and civic organizations. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Army National Guard, Hufft achieved the rank of Colonel and earned the Purple Heart.
