Supreme Court Justice Walter F. Marcus Jr.,
76, died Thursday, April 8, 2004 in New Orleans. He
earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University
and his LL.B. from Tulane University Law School. He
was elected in 1962 and later reelected without opposition
to the New Orleans City Council where he served until
his election to Civil District Court in 1966. Elected
to the Louisiana Supreme Court in 1973, he served as
an associate justice until his retirement in 2000. He
was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, in
which he served in the Infantry as a First Lieutenant.
He was the recipient of many awards including the Distinguished
Jurist Award for 1996. He was a graduate of the National
College of State Trial Judges at the University of North
Carolina. He was a member of numerous organizations
including the New Orleans, Louisiana, and American Bar
Associations.
