9th JDC Judge William P. “Budgy” Polk,
77, died Friday, November 21, 2003 in Lecompte. He earned
his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University
in 1950 and his juris doctor degree from LSU Law School
in 1956. He was in the private practice of law for 25
years before taking the bench in 1982. He served as
judge of the 9th JDC until his retirement in 1996. He
served in the United States Navy during both World War
II and the Korean War. From 1964 until 1968 he served
in the Louisiana House of Representatives. He recently
received the Causidicus Award from his peers for outstanding
service in the legal community.
