8th JDC Judge Hiram J. Wright died Wednesday,
January 9, 2002 in Winnfield, La. He attended Louisiana
State University from 1940 until 1943 when he was called
to active duty by the Army. Following his graduation
from Infantry Officer’s School, Judge Wright participated
in the campaign in Normandy, France where he was captured
by the Germans and remained a prisoner of war until
January, 1945 when he was liberated by Russian forces
in Poland. He returned to LSU and graduated with an
LLB degree in 1948. He was in the private practice of
law from 1948 until he was took the bench in 1973. Appointed
to the 8th JDC in 1973, he was elected to the same office
in 1974 where he served until his retirement in 1984.
