Retired Eunice City Court Judge J. Nilas Young, Sr., 84, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007. He earned his undergraduate degree from the former
Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette)
and joined the U.S. Army, where he served in Korea during World War II. He returned to Louisiana and earned his juris doctor degree from Louisiana State University Law School. He was elected judge of Eunice City Court in 1956 and served there until his retirement in 1984. He served as president of the Louisiana City Judges Association and Chairman of the Committee on Jurisdiction for the North American Judges Association. He was a member of a number of civic and service organizations including the city's Chamber of Commerce, where he served as president. |
