NEWS RELEASE
# 10
FROM : CLERK
OF SUPREME COURT OF LOUISIANA
The Opinions
handed down on the 29th day of January, 2001
, are as follows:
BY
KIMBALL, J. :
2000-KK-
0850 STATE OF LOUISINA v. SIDNEY COTTON (Parish
of Washington) Molestation of a Juvenile and Oral Sexual
Battery)
Accordingly,
we cannot say that the trial court abused its discretion
in refusing to admit the prior bad acts evidence. Because
the State has failed to satisfy its burden of proof
under LA. CODE EVID. art. 404(B), the ruling of the
trial court is affirmed.

L. LACHNEY, JR. v . STATE OF LOUISIANA ; HONORABLE
M.J. "MIKE " FOSTER, GOVERNOR; RICHARD P. IEYOUB, ATTORNEY
GENERAL; WILLIAM R. "RUT" WHITTINGTON , SUPERINTENDENT
STATE POLICE (Parish of Evangeline)
We conclude that
the minimum age for purchasing lottery tickets and operating
video poker is substantially related to the protection
of the general welfare of this state. Accordingly, we
overrule the district court's ruling that La. R.S. 47:9025(B)(2),
47:9070, and 27:319 are unconstitutional.
