 2007 News Releases

News Release #045

FOR IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE

NEWS RELEASE # 045

FROM: CLERK OF THE SUPREME COURT OF LOUISIANA

On the 16th day of July, 2007, the following action was taken by the Supreme Court of Louisiana in the cases listed below:

APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO TAKE BAR EXAMINATION GRANTED WITH ORDER:

2007-OB-1478 IN RE: SHERITTA M. WOODRUFF
TRAYLOR, J., would deny applicant's request to sit for the bar exam.
KNOLL, J., would deny applicant's request to sit for the bar exam.

WRIT APPLICATION DENIED:

2007-KK-1426 STATE OF LOUISIANA v. JONATHAN EARLY (Parish of Pointe Coupee)

On the 17th day of July, 2007, the following action was taken by the Supreme Court of Louisiana in the cases listed below:

APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO TAKE BAR EXAMINATION GRANTED WITH ORDER:

2007-OB-1484 IN RE: JOHN MURRAY GAVIN
TRAYLOR, J., would deny.
WEIMER, J., would deny.

WRIT APPLICATION DENIED; STAY DENIED:

2007-CC-1492 THERESA TALBOT v. RITA GILL AND ROBERT GILL (Parish of Jefferson)
CALOGERO, C.J., concurs in the denial of the writ application and assigns reasons. While the court of appeal may have properly vacated the district court's judgment, I believe the court of appeal acted prematurely in opining that the language of the lease contemplates only a one-time renewal. The issue of the lease renewal is better left for a determination by the court hearing the eviction proceedings.

WRIT APPLICATION DISMISSED ON RELATOR'S MOTION:

2007-CC-1183 LOUISE SHOPS, INC., LOUISE GORBATY, JOHN LANE, DAVID GORBATY AND MICHAEL GORBATY v. CERTAIN UNDERWRITERS OF LLOYD'S LONDON (Parish of St. Bernard)

On the 18th day of July, 2007, the following action was taken by the Supreme Court of Louisiana in the case listed below:

REQUEST FOR REMAND FOR EVIDENTIARY HEARING GRANTED WITH ORDER:

2007-OK-1082 STATE OF LOUISIANA v. SHEDRAN WILLIAMS (Parish of E. Baton Rouge)

On the 19th day of July, 2007, the following action was taken by the Supreme Court of Louisiana in the cases listed below:

STAY DENIED; WRIT APPLICATION DENIED:

2007-KK-1513 STATE OF LOUISIANA v. VINCENT MARINELLO (Parish of Jefferson)

PETITION FOR INTERIM SUSPENSION GRANTED; SEE ORDER:

2007-B -1523 IN RE: ROBERT F. DEJEAN, JR.

WRIT APPLICATION DENIED:

2007-CC-1485 DEBBIE B. ADAMS, ET AL. v. DIXIE CAB, INC., ET AL. (Parish of Lafayette)
VICTORY, J., would grant.
