Born in Virginia, 1785 • Moved to New Orleans in 1814 • Served at the Battle of New Orleans as a Lieutenant of Infantry under Andrew Jackson • Studied law in the offices of Edward Livingston, his brother-in-law • Published a translation of Las Siete Partidas with Moreau-Lislet • Died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, March 28, 1863 • Portrait artist unknown
