These changes modernize court procedures and enhance electronic filing for attorneys, marking a significant step toward improving efficiency and accessibility in Louisiana’s highest court.</p><p>The updated rules cover:</p><ul><li><strong>Filing requirements</strong> – including new formatting standards, deadlines, and confidentiality protections for sensitive information such as minors’ identities and medical records.</li><li><strong>Civil and criminal case procedures</strong> – for records, briefs, motions, writ applications, oral arguments, and rehearings.</li><li><strong>Electronic filing (Rule XLII)</strong> – attorneys can submit documents online through the Court’s secure portal. Electronic filings are legally equivalent to paper filings and include clear guidelines for registration, document format, costs, and error handling.</li></ul><p>The Court’s electronic filing system offers technical support and features for priority requests, sealed filings, and certified questions from other courts. Appendices G-1 and G-2 provide details on electronic filing fees, eligible document types, and terms of use.</p><p>“These updates are designed to streamline court processes, enhance accessibility, and ensure compliance with confidentiality and technical standards,” the Court stated.</p><p>Further, pursuant to the amendments to La. Code Civ. Proc. art. 253(B)(2) and La. Code Crim. Proc. art. 14.1(B) by Acts 2025, No. 352, §§ 1-2, effective January 1, 2026, all filings by an attorney licensed in the State of Louisiana and in good standing with the Louisiana Supreme Court shall only be filed in person in paper form or transmitted electronically through the Court's electronic filing portal in the manner provided in the Rules of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
