Retired Judge Hillary J. Crain has been assigned, by order of the Louisiana Supreme Court, as judge pro tempore to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, Division A, to fill the vacancy created by the death of Chief Judge Edward A, Dufresne, Jr. on December 7, 2010. He will serve for the period of February 1, 2011 through August 1, 2011, or until the vacancy is filled, whichever occurs sooner. Judge Crain will take over the position from retired Judge Robert L. Lobrano who was assigned to fill the vacancy through January 31, 2011.
Judge Crain served from 1968 -1982 as a judge of the 22nd Judicial District Court, representing St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. In 1982, he was elected to the First Circuit Court of Appeal where he served until his retirement in 1994.
