Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson announced today, due to the flood conditions affecting several Louisiana parishes, numerous state and federal courts have temporarily closed until conditions improve.


“Citizens and the legal community should refer to the Louisiana Supreme Court website home page at www.lasc.org for the most current list of all court closures,” Chief Justice Johnson said.


Courts presently closed include:

MONDAY, AUGUST 15, 2016

  • 1ST CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEAL - Due to the inclement weather, the Louisiana Court of Appeal, 1st Circuit will be closed Monday 8/15/2016. All filings due during the period of court closure or which become due during the period of closure shall be deemed timely if filed on or before Tuesday 8/16/2016.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2016

  • 1ST CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEAL - Due to the continuing conditions associated with the flooding in the area, the Louisiana Court of Appeal, First Circuit, will be closed Tuesday, August 16, 2016. All filings due during the period of court closure or which become due during the period of closure shall be deemed timely if filed on or before Wednesday, August 17, 2016.

  • 15TH JDC - Closure order for Acadia and Vermilion Parish Courthouses on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.  Lafayette Parish Courthouse shall reopen on Tuesday, August 16, 2016; however, employees and the general public should only travel to the Lafayette Parish Courthouse if they can safely do so.
  • 15TH JDC - Additional Information Notice from the 15th JDC regarding Jury Duty and Hearings.
  • BATON ROUGE CITY COURT - Baton Rouge City Court will be closed Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

  • EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH JUVENILE COURT - EBR Juvenile Court will be closed on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

  • FAMILY COURT OF EAST BATON ROUGE - Family Court of East Baton Rouge is closed Tuesday, August 16, 2016.
  • 19TH JDC - The 19th JDC is closed Tuesday, August 16, 2016.
  • 21ST JDC - Livingston and St. Helena courts closed on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. Tangipahoa Court will resume on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.
  • 23RD JDC/ASCENSION PARISH COURTHOUSE - The Ascension Parish Courthouse will be closed on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. This includes the Gonzales and Donaldsonville courthouses, as well as Ascension Parish Court. Offices and Courthouses in St. James and Assumption Parishes shall remain open.
