Born near Basile, Louisiana (formerly St. Landry Parish, now Evangeline Parish) • Attended St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, Louisiana and St. Paul’s College, Covington, Louisiana • Graduate of Loyola Law School, 1922 • Engaged in private practice until he began his public service and judicial career • As a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, he chaired the committee which recommended the creation of the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court and served as the Council Secretary for many years • Served on the Council of the Louisiana Law Institute • Organized the Louisiana District Judges Association, 1946, and served as the group’s 1st President; subsequently its Secretary-Treasurer • He was appointed as an Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court upon the retirement of Chief Justice Charles O’Nielll • His judicial career included two other temporary appointments to the Louisiana Supreme Court in addition to serving as ad hoc judge on the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal, service by special assignment as a District Judge for the 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 25th, 27th, and 31st judicial districts and appointments to the Criminal Court and Juvenile Court, Parish of Orleans
