Born in Canandaigua, New York, November 24, 1833 • Served as a Major in the United States Army during the Civil War • Served as President of the American Bar Association • Partner at Phelps Dunbar • Incorporator and first president of the New Orleans Art Association • Active member and fourth president of the Louisiana Historical Society • Died in New Orleans, March 17, 1909 • Portrait painted by Andres Molinary
