Born in Dubberly, Louisiana • Graduate of Louisiana State University, 1923 • J.D. from LSU School of Law, 1925 • Elected to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal in 1940, but did not assume the position as a result of his WWII military service which began in 1941 • Served in the U.S. Army with distinction and ended his military career with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, 1945 • Appointed to the Louisiana Supreme Court by Governor Jimmie Davis, 1945 • Entered state-wide electoral politics in 1947 • Notable gubernatorial achievements included reinstatement and protection of the state civil service; support for New Orleans’ Home Rule Charter and a stab at prison reform for Angola State Prison • Following his years of public service, he re-entered the private practice • Died at the age of 85, and is interred in the Young Family Cemetery in Port Hudson in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana
