Born in Covington, Louisiana, 1828 • Attended private schools and read law on his own • Became a member of the bar, 1851 • Married Louisa Knox of St. Landry Parish • Dean of Tulane University Law School • Appointed District Attorney to the Confederacy by Jefferson Davis, c.1861-1862 • Died in New Orleans on March 4, 1899 while serving his term as Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court • Louisiana Supreme Court loaned his portrait to Loyola Law School in 1959
