Born in Lot-et-Garonne, France, 1797 • Fought as an artilleryman in Napoleon’s army in the Battle of Paris, 1814 • Emigrated to the United States in 1816 • Colonel of the 19th Louisiana Regiment • Named Confederate Commissioner to France and then Spain by Jefferson Davis • Married to Louise Odile Destrehan • Purchased and remodeled Destrehan Plantation • Died in New Orleans, September 6, 1868 • Portrait painted by Andres Molinary
